Teaching English as a foreign language (or second language) is an excellent option for visiting new parts of the world. Because English is commonly used for diplomacy, higher education, business and technology, English teachers and classes are in high demand around the worldwide.

Knowing how to teach English also provides you with an excellent skill to be used in volunteering. There are opportunities around the world where people would benefit from knowing English, yet they do not have the funds to enroll in classes, or perhaps they don’t have access to any classes at all.

A Case for Multiple Intelligences Based Classroom Instruction

Although many high school age students tend to think and learn in nontraditional ways, American schools still base their instruction primarily on the verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences. As a result, many students who are not strong in these traditional intelligences develop poor attitudes toward school and their academic achievement suffers.

According to psychologist Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, intelligences change with age and with experience. Since our culture places so much importance on the traditional intelligences and since so many high school students have strengths in the nontraditional intelligences, it makes sense to incorporate the multiple intelligences into classroom instruction in order to provide experiences that will change students’ intelligences for the better.

The rapid growth of the online and distance learning community has given new hope to those who have found themselves at a crossroads in life. Many people thinking about pursuing an online degree fall into one of several categories. Some have already earned a bachelors degree and find a need, due to career goals, to return to the classroom to earn a masters or graduate degree. Others had life events interrupt their collegiate experience and they now are faced with the reality of securing their future with an undergraduate degree. For both of these scenarios, online education has taken the lead as a viable option that meets their daily work and life schedules. Many will seek a degree online in a field that they had prior interest in or had not completed fully.
